The Three Reflections

Many of us have fallen into the trap of looking at others as a reflection of who we are. We often believe that the way others perceive us is a direct reflection of our worth and value. However, this mindset sets us up to believe in a lie and can lead us to labeling ourselves and others. Labels limit us and prevent us from fulfilling our full potential. Instead, we should seek the only reflection that truly matters: what God sees for our life. In this blog post, we will explore the three images that exist and provide some reflective questions and activities to help you shift your focus to God's view of yourself.

The Three Images That Exist

  1. The Image We Think We Are…The first image that exists is the image we think we are. This is the perception we have of ourselves. It is the way we see ourselves, our strengths, our weaknesses, our accomplishments, and our failures. However, this image can be distorted by our experiences, our environment, and the opinions of others.

  2. The Image Others Say We Are…The second image is the image others say we are. This is the perception that others have of us. It is based on their experiences, their environment, and their opinions of us. However, this image can also be distorted, and we may find ourselves trying to live up to the expectations of others.

  3. The Image God Says We Are…..The third image is the image God says we are. This is the most important image because it is based on the truth. God sees us for who we are, not for who we think we are or who others say we are. God created us, and He has a plan and purpose for our lives.

Labels Limit Us

When we believe the first two images, we can easily label ourselves and others. We may think that we are not good enough or that we are better than others. We may label others as good or bad, smart or stupid, beautiful or ugly, and so on. These labels limit us because they prevent us from seeing the truth about ourselves and others. We are all unique, and we all have strengths and weaknesses. When we label ourselves and others, we put them in a box and limit their potential.

Seeking God's View

To break free from the trap of labeling ourselves and others, we need to seek God's view. We need to focus on the image that God has of us. We are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). We are created in God's image (Genesis 1:27). God has a plan and purpose for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11). When we focus on God's view, we can break free from the limitations of labels and fulfill our full potential.

Reflective Questions and Activities

Here are some reflective questions and activities to help you shift your focus to God's view:

  1. What labels do you have for yourself? Write them down and ask God to reveal the truth about yourself.

  2. What labels do you have for others? Write them down and ask God to reveal the truth about them.

  3. Take a moment to reflect on Psalm 139:14. What does it mean to you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made?

  4. Take a moment to reflect on Genesis 1:27. What does it mean to you that you are created in God's image?

  5. Take a moment to reflect on Jeremiah 29:11. What does it mean to you that God has a plan and purpose for your life?

  6. Make a list of the qualities and strengths that God has given you. Thank Him for them and ask Him to help you use them to fulfill His purpose for your life.

  7. Pray for God's guidance and direction in your view of yourself.
