Do you ever catch yourself thinking there has to be more to life than this road you are traveling down right now?
What if the rough road you find yourself on is not your only option?
Could it be your mind is so focused on the potholes that you are missing the signs that are trying to guide you to a more fulfilling journey?
If you answered yes, I want to challenge you to entertain the idea that with the right help you can take the turn-off on the road ahead. You are not alone on this journey. The One who created your path is with you. This is the road that's been prepared for you before the foundation of time. It is your destiny to reach your destination. If the rough road is all you know, the thought of entertaining a new exit may feel unfamiliar, impossible and even scary. However, this prepared journey promises to increase your capacity, qualities, and abilities towards your future success and purpose. It all starts with the One who is journeying with you, holding the map for your life, Jesus Christ.
I am convinced, now more than ever, that this road to fulfillment is an innate need for each and every one of us. I hope you begin to make a habit of carving out some time to begin grappling with such questions of self-reflection. Making time for self-reflection is what makes the difference between focusing on the potholes of unhealthy patterns rather than the signs that lead to reaching your full potential.
I wish I could be more optimistic here, but the truth is we typically begin this journey of seeking a new road to fulfillment due to getting fed up with the bumps and bruises the rough road leaves us with. This road is built on the foundation of hurts, rejection, and past mistakes. We travel along, full of conflict and dissatisfaction, in a vehicle built from shame and fueled by fear until we just can't drive any longer. Eventually, we run out of gas. Fear cannot sustain us. The good news is, that with God's help, we can not only change vehicles, but even upgrade to a premium fuel source! God's equipping is enough for the journey ahead.
Today's Prayer and Reflection:
Jesus, I have been traveling a rough road. I call upon you now to take control of my life. Lead me off the this road of mistakes and discouraged thinking. Help lift my eyes from looking down at the potholes of shame and unfulfillment, and focus them to see the road signs you have set in place for me to follow. I invite you, Jesus, to be my navigator and guide. Lead me down the path you intend for me. Get me unstuck from any potholes, the pains and hurts of my past, and lead me into your healing. Steer me onto the road you created just for me. Thank you and amen (which means, let it be!) In your matchless name, Jesus.
